Army promotes 6,199 soldiers

The Nigerian Army said on Tuesday that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, had approved special promotion to 6,199 soldiers serving in the anti-insurgency war in the North-East.

The breakdown shows that 3,502 privates became Lance Corporals while 1,290 Lance Corporals became Corporals. Also, 707 Corporals became Sergeants, while 371 Sergeants became Staff Sergeants.

The last cadre was 329 Staff Sergeants who were promoted to Warrant Officers.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, who confirmed the promotion, said, “The COAS on Tuesday approved the special promotion of 6,199 soldiers serving in the Operation Lafiya Dole to various ranks between Lance Corporals and Warrant Officers.

“He urged them to increase the tempo of the ongoing clearance operations of the Boko Haram terrorists in the North-East.”
